PHOENIX BALL 2009 CELEBRATES
|
MISSISSAUGA, Ont.: The Mississauga Board of Chinese Professionals and Businesses (CPB) will hold its 11th annual Phoenix Ball Gala on Sunday October 18, 2009, at the International Centre, 6900 Airport Road in Mississauga to fundraise for The Credit Valley Hospital, the Trillium Health Centre, and the Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care.
The theme for this year's gala "From Mississauga to Shanghai Expo 2010" was selected in recognition of the strong economic and cultural ties between the professional and business communities in Mississauga with China. This gala sets the stage for raising awareness of the upcoming World Expo in Shanghai and serves to promote Canada's participation there.
"The gala this year builds from the successes of the previous ten years, showcasing CPB at its best," said Albert Wong, president of AKW Global Enterprises and co-chair of this year's Phoenix Ball. "In light of the 2010 expo, the gala celebrates the growing business and cultural connections between Mississauga and Shanghai."
Phoenix Ball 2009 welcomes Mr. Mark Rowswell, more commonly known as Dashan as the guest of honour and keynote speaker. Mr. Rowswell, a Canadian born celebrity in the Chinese community, is the Commissioner General for Canada at the Shanghai Expo 2010. "Mark Rowswell is the most famous foreigner in China and we are truly honoured that he would be attending the Phoenix Ball," said Audrey Chiang, senior Sun Life financial advisor and chair of CPB. "Dashan is seen by many as a cultural ambassador and considered to be a symbol of East-meets-West."
"I look forward to participating in this year's Phoenix Ball, so I can provide members with an overview of what the Government of Canada is planning for Expo 2010 in Shanghai," said Mark Rowswell. "Expo 2010 is expected to be the biggest exposition ever. It is our hope that with the assistance of Cirque du Soleil, Canada will build a stunning pavilion that will create a favourable, lasting impression of Canada as a technologically advanced, bilingual, multicultural country."
The gala is one of the main social events hosted by the Chinese Community in Mississauga, with more than 700 guests attending each year. The Phoenix Ball provides guests with high quality entertainment and this year will be no different. Ma-Anne Dionisio will once again serenade guests with her soulful renditions of musical classics, and she will be joined by up-and-coming Canadian tenor Michael Ciufo.
Following tradition, the Phoenix Ball will hold its live and silent auction with lead items, including a 2010 Lexus ES350, a week-long executive getaway for two to Shanghai, and a Chef Table for 25 guests at the International Centre.
The Mississauga Board of Chinese Professionals & Businesses is a non-profit organization dedicated to linking Chinese professionals and businesses to advance the socio-economic well-being of all residents in Mississauga. CPB represents professionals and businesses from all walks of life, as well as individuals and families within the Mississauga community. Launched in May 1998, CPB has developed to be one of the most dynamic and pre-eminent voices for the Chinese professional and business community. CPB is often the "bridge" between Chinese and Canadians, and between the East and the West.
The Phoenix Ball 2009 will be held on Sunday, October 18 at The Conference Centre at the International Centre at 6900 Airport Road in Mississauga. Gala tickets are $148 for a regular ticket or $198 for a corporate ticket. To purchase Gala and Raffle tickets, please contact the CPB Office at 905-828-6800 or email to cpb@cpbmississauga.com.
