PHOENIX BALL 2010 CELEBRATES MULTICULTURALISM |
| With about 700 in attendance, the Mississauga Board of Chinese Professionals & Businesses (CPB) held its 12th annual Phoenix Ball on Saturday October 16, 2010 at the International Centre in Mississauga to fundraise for Credit Valley Hospital, Trillium Health Centre, Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care, and the Peel Chinese Community Service Hub. |
| The theme for this year's gala, "Diversity Under the Sun", was demonstrated by various cultural groups through the Ball's new Multicultural Sponsor, Carassauga. Performances by different cultural groups included India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and China, which highlighted this year's gala reception and showcased multiculturalism. |
| Phoenix Ball's reputation for exceptional entertainment was maintained once again with heodora Mechetiuc from Mentor College,fick tarting the gala with her great voice willowed by ta skillful and refreshing performance by Kalev Rhythmic Gymnastics under the tutelage of Canadian National Team coach, Evelyn Koop. Then came Miss World Canada 2009, Lena Ma, and renowned Canadian Tenor Michael Ciufo, who serenaded the audience with their great voices. The young and talented MCAF singing contest champion, Kalsen Chung, also impressed the audience with a favorite song. |
| Once again, silent auction sales reached record heights, and excitement for the live auction was built up by the fun-filled auctioneering of Ron Lenyk and Derwin Wong. The four items, a 2011 Lexus RX 350 sponsored by Erin Park Lexus Toyota, a deluxe tour package to Hong Kong donated by Tour East Holidays and Air Canada, a LASIK eye procedure at the Bochner Eye Institute, and a gourmet dinner/wine pairing session by the Executive Chef of the International Centre and Vincor Canada, were all sucessfully taken, adding to the proceeds for this year's recipients. |
| Based on preliminary calculations, the gala raised over $160,000 with Credit Valley Hospital, Trillium Health Centre and the Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation each receiving $10,000, and the Peel Chinese Community Service Hub receiving $5,000 from the proceeds of Phoenix Ball 2010. Audrey Chiang, CPB's Chair, reflected the evening's success: "This is another successful fundraising gala in a slow economic environment. We are thankful for the generous support from all our sponsors and the strong commitment from our loyal volunteers. I look forward to welcoming everyone back next year." |
