Millennium New Years Eve Celebration<%=$font_end%>
Andre Mak attended the Mississauga Millennium New Year’s Eve celebration at the Civic Square together with Mayor Hazel McCallion, Councillor George Carlson and Millennium Chair Diane Kalenchuk. Patricia Mak of CPB was invited by the Millennium Committee to sing on stage O Canada, Let’s Celebrate (Mississauga Millennium song) and Auld Lang Syne to the audience. Mayor McCallion outlined her vision of what she planned to achieve in the coming year. This family oriented evening was full of fun with entertainers including a Back Street Boys tribute and Colin James, just to name a few.

CPB held its Annual General Meeting at Good Luck Chinese Restaurant where it welcomed the re-election to the Board of Directors of Faye Chan, Audrey Chiang, Doreen Fong, Matthew Lam, Wilson Loo, Andre Mak and George Wong. CPB also welcomed the election of three new directors being Donald Lau of the Torotno-Dominion Bank, Gary Lee of BMO Nesbitt Burns, and Lawrence Lo of Summit Garden Chinese Cuisine. At the meeting, the Board also elected the Officers of CPB for the upcoming year.

Over 60 CPB Directors and members attended the Gymnastic Challenge 2000 held at the Hershey Centre. At the competition, Team China won the Gold medal for the team as well as first place in the men's competition. In appreciation to CPB for its hosting Team China, the organizing committee provided CPB with a private box plus complimentary tickets for members to enjoy the competition.

CPB MGM Grand Casino – Detroit Trip<%=$font_end%>
On June 3rd, a group of CPB members went to Detroit for a weekend bus tour. The group stopped off at Flint, Michigan to peruse the great deals offered by the outlet malls, and also visited Little Germany and the Largest Christmas Store in the World. That night, the group went to Detroit to try their luck at the MGM Grand Casino. On Sunday, the group stopped off at the Ford Museum to learn about American history. Their last stop was on the north side of the border, where they viewed Detroit across Lake Michigan. Overall, everyone had fun and given the success of this trip, another bus tour is planned in the near future.

Reception for Elinor Caplan, Minister of Citizenship and Immigation<%=$font_end%>
Andre Mak, Judy Young, and Lawrence Mak attended an evening reception with the Honourable Elinor Caplan, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, and Steve Mahoney, M.P., Mississauga West. Steve Mahoney opened the evening with remarks and comments about his work at the federal government, and he was followed by Minister Caplan who addressed the audience about the latest development of illegal landings and claimants of refugee status.
She indicated that the government would tighten the back door of illegal immigrants. However, she also emphasized the importance and needs of more legitimate and qualified immigrants to Canada now and in the future due to the aging of the baby boomers.

Snake Dinner<%=$font_end%>
CPB in conjunction with the Yee Hong Capital Campaign for Peel Region hosted a very successful Snake Dinner at Emerald Restaurant. What started out as a dinner for about 200 people grew to a sold out event with over 500 members and guests and 52 tables. The Dinner helped raise approximately $15,000 for the Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation. At the dinner, it was announced that Ron Starr has been named chair of the advisory committee to the campaign cabinet.
